Nose: Hints of fermented sauerkraut, a sliver of straw and certainly some kirsch. Also soft notes of ashes, damp moss and maybe even a whisper of iodine. It’s youthful for sure, but pleasant anyway. After a while orange chocolates pop up.
Taste: Rather tame. Approachable would be the friendlier descriptor. There are dry ashes, tar and some mustard seeds, as well as a hint of smoke-infused caramel, a pinch of salt and gentle citrus notes.
Finish: Could be longer, but not short. Medium? Nah, let’s say short to medium. Especially for a heavily peated whisky. Anway, also some lingering notes of chocolate, seaweed and oysters.
