Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) from Southern Italy, juicy and easy sipping red

While it might be old, it's anything but 'Primitive'. The grape Primitivo means 'early riser' as it buds early compared to other grapes. It thrives in hot and settled weather conditions, which accurately describes its ancestral home of South Eastern Italian region of Puglia.
For those more familiar with Californian wines, it has been proven that Primitivo is identical to Zinfandel, and sports vibrant fruit, relatively low acid and flavours not unlike Shiraz. This version is produced from the town of Minervino di Lecce, near the South-Eastern tip of Italy on the Salento peninsula.

Deep red colour at the core, fading towards the rim. aromas of sweet spice, raspberry and dates, with nuances of ruby port. Flavours of ripe blackberries, cherry jam, roasted almonds and allspice.
