Established in 1948, Douglas Laing is a proudly independent, family owned Scotch Whisky business in its third generation. Over 70 years of heritage have helped them to refine their processes, and deliver Whisky that is consistently exceptional in its offering.
Inspired by a long line of Douglas Laing family Fox Terriers, Scallywag Malt Scotch Whisky is a marriage of aged Speyside Single Malts matured predominantly in Spanish Sherry casks. Anticipate an explosion of rich, dark fruits, chocolate and spice interwoven with late vanilla. Award-winning Scallywag is bottled and released in genuinely small, precious batches.
It's a 12 year old limited edition expression of Douglas Laing's Scallywag blended malt, marrying Speyside single malts which have been matured exclusively in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. After the whisky was sufficiently sherried, the casks yielded 6,000 bottles at a cask strength of 53.6% ABV, bottled without colouring or chillfiltering, complete with the familiar friendly fox terrier on the label sporting a monocle.
Nose: A good hit of sherry, with dark cherry jam, dark berries and treacle, with a hefty sprinkling of baking spices.
Palate: Sweet and rich, more rich treacle, sweet, almost honeyed vanilla cream, barley sugar and toasted oak among lots of jammy blackberries.
Finish: The fruity, sweet palate continues onto the finish, with even more spicy notes building, lots of cinnamon and allspice remaining.
