Individual parcels were selected as an expression of what Hawke's Bay and we here at Black Barn regard as the variety we are best known for. Our 2020 Chardonnay is a fresh, fruit-driven style with underlying palate weight and seamless palate texture.
The juice was allowed to ferment in a mix of tank and older oak barrels with a mix of indigenous and cultured yeast. Spontaneous Malolactic fermentation was permitted on selected components followed with regular stirring of lees until early spring.
The wine was left on yeast lees for 4 months, was racked, blended and bottled with minimal fining.
Aromas of Citrus peel, stone fruit with a hint of lees complexity and struck match flintiness A ripe front palate, flows with focused fruit and a brightness that has a lingering finish.
