Crafted from 96% Shiraz and 4% Viognier, this outstanding full-bodied wine boasts a refined structure thanks to the Viognier. On the nose, it reveals inviting aromas of dark berries, floral nuances, and milk chocolate. The lush palate delivers rich flavours of dark berries, plums, dusty mocha, and subtle spice, all balanced by polished tannins and fine acidity. It's an excellent choice to pair with lamb chops or BBQ ribs.
92/100 Wine Orbit, Sam Kim (2019 vintage) "It's attractively fruited and inviting on the nose showing Black Doris plum, mulberry, mixed spice and almond notes, followed by a succulent palate offering supple texture and silky tannins. Upfront and very tasty. At its best: now to 2025."
Penny's Hill Cellar Door Chook House is the home of The Black Chook brand and its namesake, the original "Black Chook", often seen under the big gum tree. The Black Chook range features premium fruit from South Australia's top wine regions, offering wines that are meant to be enjoyed and shared. Founded in 1988, Penny's Hill spans 32 hectares (80 acres) on the scenic foothills east of McLaren Vale, overlooking Gulf St. Vincent. Named after the hill at its base, the vineyard was planted in 1991 with a unique narrow-row configuration for optimal productivity and quality.
