NZ's oldest winery, established in 1851 by French Missionaries, Mission is the birthplace of NZ wine. Jewelstone, is exactly that, the Jewel in the crown of Mission's Syrah vineyard. The fruit is from an organically certified area off their two hectare, single vineyard Syrah block in the Gimblett Gravels. Aged in French Oak for 12 months, less than 500 cases of this Syrah were made.
The Jewelstone Syrah has a floral spicy nose with very sweet ripe fruit elements. The palate has good fruit intensity, sweet tannins and a wonderful freshness in the mouth. The tannins dissolve leaving a lovely perfumed and savoury aftertaste on the finish.
