In true Aussie fashion when we asked the team at Koerner for tasting notes for this wine they told us: "Bordeaux varieties made in a Loire style - vibrant, bright fruits & soft tannins."
...enough said really!
The story of Koerner is the story of two brothers and a dog.
Brothers Damon and Jono Koerner are bringing a fresh approach to winemaking in the Clare Valley. Their grapes come from a select few Clare Valley vineyards – all in conversion to organics – with much of the fruit harvested from their parents’ 40 year old vineyard in the famous Watervale sub-region. The boys grew up in that vineyard.
They pick early, with little intervention in their winemaking approach, producing wines that are fresh, textured and well structured and offer great drinkability in their youth. They also tend to be refreshingly lower in alcohol than their more traditional peers.
Koerner blended red wine is simply called “The Clare” and is a revelation. The 2020 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Franc, Malbec, Grenache, Carignan and Sciacarello and is beautifully fruited, ripe but fresh.
Not surprisingly in 2019 the brother Koerner won the Young Guns of Australian Wine.
And their dog’s called Rudi.
