Bobal is the defining grape of under-the-radar Spanish region Utiel-Requena, located outside Valencia. The snail on the bottle represents the ethos of Bodega Aranleon, a tribute to the slow, patient work in the vineyard. The grapes are hand-harvested from largely non-irrigated vines, and the wine is aged in Hungarian and French oak barrels for six months. Low-intervention, certified organic and vegan.
Bobal is a powerful grape, but with a characteristic delicacy defined by aromas of dried herbs and flowers, often described as ?balsam? or ?medicinal?. Plenty of red and black fruit on the nose, alongside touches of oak, with a mineral freshness on the palate. The wine has the structure to age, and in its present lively form is best savoured with food. 20% Syrah is blended for balance.
The wine?s balance gives it versatility when pairing. We favour sausages on the barbecue, juicy steaks, and cheeses. You also can?t go wrong with tapas.
