Alchemy 2021 The Elixir was created from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which was co-fermented, pressed and then aged in French oak barrels (20% of which were new). Inviting aromas of sweet-scented spice, dark plum and crushed forest fruits fill the bouquet, layered with brooding savoury notes of leather and dried herbs. Rich and concentrated berry fruit and spice fill the palate, supported by fine-grained oak that adds richness and complexity, balanced with juicy acidity, giving a long and flavoursome finish.
Nestled near Puketapu and perfectly positioned on the Omarunui plains, the Alchemy vines have grown and been nurtured here for over 20 years. The vineyard is blessed with the perfect site. A marriage of soil from an old river floodplain with a microclimate featuring cool nights and hot days.
Neal Cave is the owner and viticulturist at Alchemy Wines. Neal’s relationship with the land has defined the quality of the wine that comes from it. His unique blend of science and passion has created Alchemy.
The first vintage of Alchemy Wine was produced in 2010. While its reputation may have grown since then, the ambition of Alchemy has stayed the same. To create small batches of beautifully crafted, carefully curated wine.
