Saint-Aubin is a village in the Côte de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy, tucked away behind the two ‘Montrachet’ villages. Saint-Aubin is a great source of fine, steely white Burgundy.

After acquiring a vineyard in 2013 in Gevrey-Chambertin, David Hall-Jones and PM (short for Pui Mun), who own a 14 ha vineyard at Lowburn in Central Otago created Domaine-Thomson to encompass their Pinot Noir wine operations in the northern and southern hemispheres. David Hall-Jones had just become the first New Zealander to own a vineyard in Burgundy. Under that banner, Surveyor Thomson will continue as the name for the Central Otago wine.

Its Burgundian cousin will follow the Burgundy village wine tradition and carry Gevrey-Chambertin prominently on the label. David Hall-Jones is confident their French vineyard will soon be elevated to premier cru status, a promotion that would see the vineyard name itself – Les Evocelles – taking a lead

The 2019 vintage in Burgundy will be remembered for its intense fruit, firm structure and supple texture with wines that are rich but show remarkable balance despite the heat.
Low yields and the heat combined to concentrate both acidity and sugar in the grapes, allowing both reds and whites to maintain a very fine balance of richness and structure.
