Situated on the outskirts of Wigtown in Galloway, Bladnoch Distillery has a long turbulent history, seeing long periods of closure and several owners come and go. It's currently undergoing a period of resurrection by Australian entrepreneur David Prior, along with the help of the new master distiller Ian MacMillan (formally of Bunnahabhain). Samsara (meaning 'rebirth') is one of three new releases to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the distillery, boasting maturation in first fill ex Bourbon and ex Californian Red Wine casks. The nose is rich and fragrant with hints of orange blossom vanilla and plums. The wine cask influence comes through more on the palate with rich fruit compote, citrus and a lingering spicy finish.
