In late 2020, GlenAllachie released a trio of whiskies, each one having been finished in virgin oak casks - the range was (descriptively) called the Virgin Oak Series! This particular expression was matured for 12 years, including a finishing period in French oak casks, made with wood from the Haute-Garonne region. Said wood was air dried for 15 months before being filled with GlenAllachie's excellent whisky.
This rich bronze malt obtains its silky tannins, sweet spice and fruit notes from hogsheads made of French Oak (Quercus Robur) sourced from the Haute-Garonne region close to the Pyrenees. The fine-grained, consistent wood is air dried for 15 months before hosting the GlenAllachie spirit. The result is a delectable, subtle and earthy Single Malt.
Buttery aromas at first, with layers of orange oil, mocha and heather honey.
The palate builds slowly with of toasted oak, tangy citrus, toffee and cinnamon. A hint of earthy barley comes through later on.
Earthy coffee bean balanced by sweet orchard fruit on the finish.
