The Coal Pit name is derived from the historical area in the nearby mountain ranges which provided the early pioneers, musterers and gold miners with coal as they passed over the Coal Pit saddle. The coal was bagged at the pit, loaded into carts and brought down Coal Pit road to the valley.

The flagship Pinot Noir 'Tiwha' pays tribute to owner Rosie Dunphy's late father.

Coal Pit is a small, passionate team of wine lovers, dedicated to crafting premium, sustainable and elegant wines. Rosie purposefully surrounded herself with experts from the wine industry that she now calls friends. The high quality of wines are a true reflection of the love and effort from each member of the team.

This tank fermented style of Sauvignon Blanc demonstrates vibrant aromas of passionfruit, lemon grass, and fresh herbaceous notes of mint and jalapeno. The palate shows bright acidity and great length, with ripe citrus flavours balanced by a savoury salinity that is typically seen at Coal Pit from youth through to maturity. This minerality is likely reflective of the high concentration of schist in the soil of the Coal Pit Vineyard.

An elegant varietal expression with fine fruit purity - graceful and light, reflective of both the season and gentle handling in the winery.

Rosie matches this wine with smoked Kahawai and caper paté, charred asparagus with toasted almonds.
