Red Metal began as a passionate producer of Merlot blended with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, but over time added Syrah and more recently Albarino to their range. There are two levels - Basket Press (the Reserve level wines), and what the team at Red Metal like to call their 'Easy Drinking' wines.
The top reds are hand plunged in small open vats and spend 9 to 18 months in oak barrels depending on variety and vintage.
The Basket Press wines will comfortably cellar for a decade or more, but all of the wines have Red Metal's wine hallmark drinkability from an early age.
Ripe black plum flavours with hints of chocolate and licorice along with fine, soft tannins and a touch of oak. A classic Merlot based Hawkes Bay red from a very warm vintage that will reward cellaring for a decade or more.
