Bottled from a handful of barrels that matured Bunnahabhain's peated spirit for 7 years, this new release from Cadenhead shows the lesser-known side of this traditionally unpeated whisky.
The aroma opens immediately of dry, briney and sea-side salty smoke - lobster creels and salt-encrusted rocks on the shore. The peaty character is distinctly nutty, imagine roasted peanuts on a peat fire, smoky cured ham and sweet poached pears. A viscous and oily mouthfeel carries the finish which ends mouth drying on the edges - salt water from the bays of Bunnahabhain.
