Stuart Laing, son of famous whisky independent bottler Douglas F. Laing established Hunter Laing & Co. after nearly 50 years in the whisky industry, breaking away from his brother Fred who remains the owner of the Douglas Laing Company.

Hunter Laing are best known for their Old Malt Cask, Douglas of Drumlanrig and Old and Rare series, all of which are sourced from single casks from distilleries all around Scotland. The Old Malt Cask series are bottled at what is referred to as 'the golden strength' of 50% ABV, a strength that founder Stuart Laing believes offers the best qualities of higher proof bottlings, while giving their whiskies 'drinkability'.
The Old and Rare series are beautifully presented cask strength bottlings, often from closed and obscure distilleries such Port Ellen, Brora or St. Magdalene, amongst others.
