Before Jandals were a Kiwi birthright, they were just a good idea based on the traditional Japanese Sandal. John Cowie of Taranaki saw potential where others didn’t and began making a plastic version of the jandal in the 1940s.
Unfortunately, Cowie’s innovative spirit didn’t translate into the savviest of business chops - the trademark and patent later being secured by a slippery entrepreneur from Auckland who introduced a rubber version of the flip flop.
This Hazy IPA celebrates the kiwi innovative spirit - collaborating with Hāpi Hop Research trialling different techniques of hop additions and how they diversify flavour. Join us in raising a glass of ‘Sole Trader’ to the pioneers of versatile footwears and great beers.
