Rob Burnley found his place in the wine world after working for a number of great like-minded producers abroad but it wasn’t until he moved to Australia and started to work for Bill Downie and Patrick Sullivan that the concept for Unkel Wines was born. He and his wife Kate recently returned to NZ to take over an organic estate near Nelson and this is his first vintage from the homeland.
Pinot Blanc from Nelson is all about freshness. A cool climate region surrounded by mountains but by the sea gives this wine its unique character. A certain salinity finds its way into the wine and coupled with the cool climate acidity gives it a remarkable refreshing quality. A wine like this is begging for some seafood.
